How do I register added leaf springs?

Changing the number or size of leaf springs counts as a vehicle modification. You apply to the registrar at a DLT office. It cannot be inspected at a private inspection station.

  2. Engineer check and certificateA mechanical engineer checks the car, does the calculations and issues the certificate.
  3. Complete the documentsCertificate, drawings, calculations and photos.
  4. Apply at the DLTApply to the registrar and bring the car for the DLT inspector. We can handle the process.
  5. DLT inspects the carChecks documents and structural strength, takes a rubbing of the chassis number and 2 photos, then records it in the system.

What documents are needed for added leaf springs?

  • Structural strength certificate from a licensed mechanical engineer, associate level or higher, with a copy of the licence
  • Drawings and calculations for spring capacity and weight distribution
  • Colour photo of the engineer with the car, 45 degrees from the front, showing the whole car and plate
  • Colour photo of the springs from the rear, showing spring and axle clearly, for rear axle work
  • Registration book and any owner documents the DLT office asks for

Gross vehicle weight must not exceed the original manufacturer figure, and the car still may not carry more than its rated capacity. Fees depend on the car and we confirm the total before starting.

One-stop service that's done well. A basic waiting area, with a place to work that's usable. Good service from start to finish. We've used this place many times, probably 4 years in a row, because: 1. It's systematic, from bringing the car in to sending the documents. 2. The staff are lovely, pick up the phone quickly and can answer questions. 3. The inspectors know their stuff. What really made me come and give 5 stars is the small touches. We chose to have the registration book and receipt sent by post, and they wrote the plate number on the inside of the envelope. It's a small thing, but it shows how much care goes into the work here. Highly recommended.

The shop is on Srinakarin Road before the expressway. Landmark: when you reach the PTT station, get ready to keep left and turn. Weekdays are fairly quick with few people. They offer scheduled maintenance checks and car inspection for road tax, and they'll do the renewal too, all done in one go. Quick, good service, and the receptionists speak nicely. There's a guest room where you can work while waiting, with drinking water. The inspection finished at 1:30 pm and I got the road tax sticker the same day at 4:30 pm.
